Western Thunderer
I noticed members have different things following thier forum name like "Western Thunderer', 'Flying Squad', 'Guest', 'Active Member' and so-on.

Go on, gee us a clue.

Western Thunderer
Trophies... to denote number of posts, length of membership, painting diseasels any shade of blue... there is a topic about this somewhere in the mists of Avalon.

Guest is a lapsed member whilst Flying Squad is a reference to the Sweeney etc., I trust that either Dan (@Dan Randall) or Adrian (@adrian) can answer that point.

Mid-Western Thunderer
Read the "About" section in the header bar.
That should explain some of the mysteries of this Forum. The titles are a bit of fun really - such as mine being "Mid-Western Thunderer" to denote my main interest in US Railroads. Nobody pays any attention to your post count or what-have-you; the main currency is photographs - usually of great modelling, but some of us only manage mediocre or 'comedy' modelling, but they're a tolerant bunch here.

Also read "28ten" about the founder of Western Thunder, Cynric Williams, who was taken far too soon.

That's the basic jist of things. Although Guest (in the current visitors list) also includes people viewing the forum who haven't yet registered, they can't see the members areas and only able to view thumbnail images. The different names are done purely on the number of posts made, so you start as a new member after a few posts it'll change to simply "member" a few more posts and it changes to Active member and then after 60 posts the final name is Western Thunderer. Every now and again there is a little bit of fun and a couple of people might end up with a custom name - hence Jordan as Mid-Western Thunderer as an example.

When Cynric set up the forum he used the Guv'nor and Jack Reagan from the Sweeney as the avatar for the admin account - hence the moderating team became known as the Flying Squad. Although by and large everybody is courteous and tolerant so it's generally self moderating and the Flying Squad are more Forum managers than moderators. For which I am eternally grateful and thankful for

To be honest I joined the forum because it concentrated on the modelling and it didn't really go for point scoring or trophies. I like to see people having a go making something or sharing some knowledge or skill, it doesn't bother me whether someone has made 10 posts or 500 posts. So we don't list post count, trophies, points or "likes" on the forum avatars anymore and just enjoy the modelling and the photos.

I hope that answers your question and hopefully clears it up for a few other that might have been wondering what it was all about.
