I'm halfway through this classic book by Gerard Fiennes. Wonderful accounts on management and improvement, not a book for a slacker to read, or maybe it is!

The thoughtful accounts of the Gidea Park crash and zesty accounts of the Shenfield electrification are a wonder to read, along with how the (G)ER got 23 Britannia's.

You read it and have faith that the railways were a dynamic organisation that could constantly improve.

Looking forward to reading how he got on with Dr Beeching....
