QCAD question

Phil,

I’m guessing again, but your should-not-be-hatched shapes are either on a layer behind, or the boundary is not continuous, so “leaks”.

Hoping these hints are helpful

Hi Simon

I have just checked and all the shapes are on the same layer. It took me ages to remove the leaks, most of which were either fillets or spurious additional lines.

Thanks for the input, at least it made me check and been ruled out.

When I have been hatching, I have filled each section individually.

It's one of the few places where QCad falls down. It is very slow to hatch compared to say TurboCad. On the flip side though QCad is very good at telling you where the issues are for why it may not want to hatch, unlike TurboCad.

Hi All

I have finally sorted the problem, I had some how gained additional lines over the top of the beading lines, once I had found and removed them, all is good. Off down the pub to celebrate.

Thanks for your input.

I will post a screen shot once I have finished it.

Job almost done.

I say almost done as I have lost the half etch lines under the moulding fill and I haven't yet discovered a way of altering the layer levels.

I have to thank Adrian for showing me the way of producing drawings suitable for etching. I just need to work at it now to produce the sides. This has come about after struggling with the etches that I got from Worsley Works, but I was unaware of how to produce the necessary art work, the next job is to do the backs for the ends.

Select anywhere in the filled area by making the selection box right to left. This will highlight the filled areas.

In the properties editor window that is bottom right in your screen shot, type 1 in the draw order and press return.

That will make any lines under the filled area visible.

Thanks Phil,

That's worked a treat, it's thrown up a couple of conflicts, but nothing that can't be sorted.

This has been a bit of a learning curve, but it's been easier than learning Templot.

Duplicate lines shouldn’t really be an issue. Though they do come up if you’re mirroring and repeating sections of drawing.

A quick but not always 100% method of catching these is to select the modify menu and then select duplicates. You can then delete with a single button press.

I'll have to try and remember that Phil..
